Send a gift to someone in Bangkok from overseas
Hi, I'm Pim. Someone overseas wrote to me wanting to surprise a friend in Bangkok with three things at once: a particular novel, a really nice bouquet of fresh flowers and an iced matcha latte from one of the city's specialty matcha cafes. They wanted everything to turn up together, at her door, as a surprise.
Flower shops deliver flowers, bookshops ship books and cafes sell drinks, but none of them put the three together. So we did the joining up.
What happened
- That night: The request came in through our website with the book title and ISBN, the delivery address and the day they hoped for.
- Then: I wrote back to say we could arrange it, and asked two things: a rough budget and style for the flowers, and the recipient's phone number so the courier could hand everything over in person without spoiling the surprise.
- I also flagged early that the book was a recent overseas edition, so it might not be on shelves in Bangkok.
- Next: we asked English-language bookshops whether they had a copy, and asked florists whether they could deliver a good bouquet and carry the other gifts in the same trip.
What they had to do: tell us what to buy, where it was going and when.
What you can send
- Flowers, from a simple bunch to a big arranged bouquet or flower box
- A specific book, if a Bangkok shop has it in stock
- A drink or dessert from a favourite cafe or bakery, picked up last so it arrives fresh
- A birthday cake, chocolates, fruit basket or wine
- A card with your own message
- Several gifts from different shops, delivered together in one drop
What to tell us
- What you'd like to send, with links, titles or ISBNs if you have them
- A rough budget for each item
- The recipient's name, address and phone number
- The day, and a time they're likely to be home
- Whether it's a surprise, and any card message
What Ask Pim does
I can arrange the whole thing for you, or send you shops and couriers we've checked so you can order from them yourself.
If I arrange it, we:
- Find the shops that have what you want, and a florist or courier who can bring it all together
- Check stock and availability for your day and get you a price for each part
- Set up the pickups and one delivery to the recipient
- Follow up afterwards to let you know it was handed over
If you'd rather do it yourself, I'll send you a short list of florists, shops and couriers we've checked, with their contact details.
Not in Thailand right now?
That's when this is most useful. Say you're in London and your mum in Bangkok has a birthday coming up. Tell us her favourite flowers, the cake shop she likes and what you want the card to say. We'll order the cake, have the flowers made up, and get both to her door together, then let you know once she has them.
Questions people have asked me
"Could you please confirm whether you can arrange this?"
Yes. Send us what you'd like to give, the address and the day, and we'll check each item and confirm the plan with you before anything is bought.
"What's the earliest possible delivery date?"
It depends on the items. Flowers and cafe drinks are usually the easy part. Something specific like a book depends on whether a shop in the city has it in stock, so we check that first and tell you what we find.
Where
Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Other cities on request.
